DTH New Rules By TRAI | Tariff Plan For 130 Rupees For D2H and Cable T.V
Telecom regulatory authority of India (TRAI) is responsible for regulating and controlling all the telecommunication companies and broadcasters of India. It allows to make the functioning of the system smooth by making a common law framework for all the companies.
BROADCASTER
BROADCASTER are the companies which are owning the channels that consumers views. These companies are having around 20-40 channels under them. Some of the examples TOP broadcasters with their channels are listed below
1. SONY ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION
2. ZEE ENTERTAINMENT ENTERPRISE LIMITED
3. STAR TELEVISION NETWORKS
DISTRIBUTOR
Distributors or cable operators get the channels from the broadcasters and they supply or distributes to us meaning to the consumers. They act as mediator between the broadcaster and consumer or viewer. Some of the Broadcasters are as follows
1. TATA SKY
2. DISH TV
In simple terms, broadcasters such as SONY
are the owner of all the channels related to SONY such as SONY SIX OR SONY MAX
and these channels are supplied to Distributor such as TATA SKY or DISH TV etc
and NOW these distributors also called cable operators supply these channels to
us which means to YOU and ME.
Currently, distributors are deciding mostly
the channels for us and the channels we view. We are not allowed to choose the
channels we want to see. The cable operator makes the package of channels
related to NEWS, SPORTS, and ENTERTAINMENT etc and supply to us.
At this time the distributor was the
ultimate controller or Boss of the whole system because it was in the control
of cable operators to which channels to make available for you, even if
distributor wants, it can block the channels or choose between the channels
provided by broadcaster.
For example : TATA SKY blocked all the channels of SONY
DTH NEW RULES

to adjust their hardware, software and all the things related to their
functioning to be adjusted according to the new system. For this update TRAI

29 December 2018, we exactly have 180 days.
New Tariff Plans FOR DTH
1. Get 100 channel in 130 rupee per month
The
consumer will get 100 channels in 130 rupees for viewing. These 130 rupee is
NETWORK CAPACITY FEE.
Network
capacity fees in simple terms means that for making space of 100 channels for
you through cable or satellite it would require 130 rupee per consumer. This
only the fee of making 100 channel available on your TV.
WHICH
CHANNELS ARE INCLUDED IN THESE 100 CHANNELS FOR 130 RUPEE?
These 100 channels would be FREE TO AIR which
means broadcaster offer free and paid channels and for example if you are
choosing 100 free channels in your list, you have to pay 130 rupee only. Note
that here we are only talking about free channels, we have not included the
paid channels in this list
Other option is that you have taken 100
free channels and now you want to add paid channels. This means you have to pay
for paid channels on top of 130 rupees. Here one thing is fixed, we have to pay
130 rupee minimum if we want to see television irrespective of the channel
which we choose.
LET’S TAKE AN EXAMPLE
You choose 90 free channels and 10 paid
channels, so total cost would be calculated as 130 rupee for 100 channels and
additional money for the 10 paid channels.
For example each channel is for 20 rupee, so
for 10 paid channels it would be 200 rupees, so total package would be of 330
rupees. This is not the end on top of the 330 rupee, you also have to pay 18%
GST on the total amount,
SO FINALLY YOU WOULD PAY = 330+59.4 = 389.4
WHAT
IF I WANT MORE THAN 100 CHANNELS?
In
these 100 channel list, it is compulsory to take 26 channels of Durdarshan, so
now you finally have 74 channels to choose from. Now these 74 channels can be
paid or free but 130 rupee is mandatory to pay.
If you want more than 100 channels you have
to buy an extra slot of channels, where for 25 channels you have to pay 20
Rupee
25 EXTRA CHANNEL = 20 RUPEE EXTRA
So if your plan has 125 channel you have to
pay = 130+20=150 Rupee for network and more money will be added for the paid
channels if you are taking.
ARE THESE 100 channel HD?
These 100 channels are SD NOT HD. So if you
are taking a HD channel in this 100 channel list. So one HD channel will be
counted as 2 channels in your list
For example if you are taking all 50 HD channel
this means your 100 channel list is completed. This might be because HD
channels take more satellite width and effort to bring the HD Service to
consumers

TRAI VS BROADCASTERS
TRAI RULES FOR BROADCASTERS WHICH GOT REJECTED FROMG HIGH COURT?
Broadcasters are allowed to
make all the bunch of their channels and provide them at low cost TRAI suggested to make sum
the all channels with individual prices and give maximum 15 % discount on the
total.
ADVANTAGES TO BROADCASTER
Broadcaster approached high court and got a stay order on this decision, that’s why broadcasters can give the whole bunch of channels for cheap price such as STAR NETWORKS can provide all channels for 49 Rupee.
This is benefitting broadcasters because according to TRAI, the whole package would be of more than 500 rupees and then no one would buy that and every will buy individual channels.
This will be a big loss to broadcaster because they will only get TRP On the famous and well known channels and no everyone will buy 2 or 3 famous channels of broadcaster. So they will go in huge loss as no consumer would be seeing the shows and ads on the other channels but this is not fixed. It can change if TRAI gets stay order from Supreme Court.
NOW WHAT TO DO? Solution to DTH PLANS
OPTION 1 -Take all the 100 free channels
from 250 channel list for 130 rupee. You can cleverly choose from the list.
Note here 26 channels of doordarshan are fixed already. So you have to choose
from 76 channels
OPTION 2- Take 90 free channels and take 10
paid channels individually so you have to pay very less which would be even
less than 200 rupee
OPTION 3- Take the bundles from SONY, STAR,
ZEE AND COLORS as this would be really cheap
OPTION 4- only take channels that you want
to view. The less channel you will see, the less you have to pay.
Option 5: select 2 channels in every
category such as sports, entertainment, music or movies. You can arrange the
bundle according to your interest and budget
OPTION 6: Don’t watch T.V and save money
switch to JIO TV
Option 7: Take all the free channels and
keep watching it for 130 rupees
HOW TO MAKE BUNDLE?
SD
CHANNEL BUNDLES COST
HD CHANNEL TOTAL COST
To be honest, broadcaster are taking money
from us for their channels to show ads to us. If we are paying for channel then
we would not be shown the ads but broadcasters are earning from ads that we
only will see and would take extra money from us.
